The short version: you rent a name under safe.gm for a year at a time. Use it honestly. We automatically check where every name points, and if it's used for scams, phishing, malware or anything illegal, we switch it off. If you don't renew, the name goes back to the pool after 30 days.
1. The service
safe.gm ("we", "us") lets you reserve a name such as yourname.safe.gm and point it at a simple page, another website, or your own server. You don't own the name. You get the right to use it while it's paid for and you follow these terms.
2. Your account
- Use a real email address you can access. We use it for password resets, receipts, renewal reminders and safety notices.
- Keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
3. Names, payment and renewal
- A reserved name is held for 72 hours. If it isn't paid for in that time, it's released.
- Once we confirm payment, the name is live for one year. Prices are shown before you pay.
- We send a reminder before your name expires. If you don't renew, the name stops working on its expiry date and is released 30 days later.
- Payments aren't refunded once a name is live, except when we suspend a name by mistake.
- Some names are reserved for safe.gm itself (such as www, mail and api) and can't be registered.
- Protected names: names that look like banks, payment services, telecoms, government bodies or well-known brands can be requested, but they only go live after we have checked who you are and that you have the right to use that name. We may refuse a protected name, or take it back later, if you can't show that right.
4. What you can't do
You may not use a safe.gm name, page, redirect, or anything it points to, for:
- Phishing, fake login pages, or pretending to be another person, business or organization
- Scams, fraud, fake shops or fake investment schemes
- Malware, viruses or anything that harms visitors' devices
- Spam, including sending bulk email from a safe.gm name
- Content that sexualizes minors, promotes violence or terrorism, or harasses people
- Anything illegal, or that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark
5. Automatic safety checks
To protect visitors and keep safe.gm trusted by browsers and search engines, we automatically check every name. By using safe.gm you agree that:
- When you save where your name points, and regularly after that (at least every hour), our systems open and read the page or website it points to, and any links on your simple page.
- We compare these addresses with security lists from third parties, including Cloudflare's malware and phishing list and Google Safe Browsing, and we look at what the page contains (for example its title, its forms, and whether it asks for passwords, card numbers, PINs, codes or recovery phrases, or uses the name of a brand it doesn't belong to).
- If a check finds something harmful, we may refuse the change or switch the name off immediately, without asking you first. We'll email you when this happens.
- Pages that look risky but not clearly harmful may be flagged for a person at safe.gm to review.
- Automatic checks can make mistakes, in both directions. A name may be switched off by mistake, and a harmful page may not be caught. If yours was switched off by mistake, contact us and we'll review it, switch it back on, and extend your name for the time it was off. This is the only remedy for a mistaken switch-off.
- A page passing our checks does not mean we approve it, have reviewed it, or are responsible for it.
6. When we act
Besides the automatic checks, we review reports from anyone. We may suspend or remove a name, without notice and without a refund, if we believe it breaks these terms or puts visitors at risk. Names used for phishing, fraud or malware may be deleted for good. If you think we made a mistake, contact us and we'll look again.
7. Other people's websites
When your name points to another website, that website and everything on it is your responsibility, not ours. We may check it automatically as described in section 5, but we don't control it and we don't promise it is safe.
8. Availability
We work to keep safe.gm fast and online, but we can't promise it will never go down. We rely on providers such as Cloudflare, Netlify and Neon. The service is provided "as is".
9. Liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect losses such as lost profits, lost visitors or lost data, including losses caused by a name being refused, flagged or switched off by our safety checks, or by a harmful page that our checks did not catch. Our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we'll email you before it takes effect. Using safe.gm after that means you accept the new terms.
